Tween, Teen & Collage Aged Narration Voiceover
Narration may come in many different forms including television, film, documentary, explainer videos, eLearning, how to videos, Medical, Corporate, and Industrial narration, trade show exhibits, kickstarter videos, public service announcements, exercise instructions, meditation and relaxation self guides, real estate and vacation tours, and so much more. While each of these fall under the narration umbrella, each one has specific characteristics that make it unique. The purpose may be to tell a story or to get information and announcements across, but overall is not a sales pitch.
Varieties of Narration
Here are some descriptions of the various types of Narration:
TV/Video documentary
This could include history, nature, travelogues, cinema verité, sports films, etc. Jessica has voiced many film, tv, video and nature projects.
Voicemail and Telephone Systems
Although Telephony is a distinct and growing genre for obvious reason, many people lump it in with narration. Other forms of computerized audio, too. Either of these includes long announcements (e.g., on-hold promotional messages) and short phrases that are concatenated by computer, possibly based on user voice or touchpad input.
Educational Videos
With production capabilities so ubiquitous these days, educational videos are not at all limited to what substitute teachers used to show on rainy days. They’re all over the place, many of them in need of experienced professional help. Jessica has provided voices for numerous education videos, some are explainers, some are characters and some are actual teaching.
E-learning
This might be an interactive computer learning tool, or any sort of educational video or audio presentation. Even a college course. Jessica has voiced a wide variety of e-learning projects, most have been for teaching the English language.
Explainer Videos
These usually explain what a product is or does and/or how it works. Jessica has explained hundreds of projects to assist people in the educational, corporate, and creative worlds.
Self-help and How-to Videos
The function of these is obvious. They’re more nuts-and-bolts than the usual Explainer.
Medical Educational Video
This is like other educational, how-to or explainer work, but to patients or a professional audience. Jessica has done some medical projects related to kids. She has explained some procedures to help kids feel more at ease if they are in a situation where they may have to get a medical procedure done.
Website Audio
This can be anything from short phrases of instruction, to a video hosted on the website. Jessica has voiced all sorts of website projects.
Corporate Presentation
Part documentary, part sales pitch, the tone of voice should match the company’s desired public personality.
Children’s Stories
Usually shorter than your typical audiobook, and sometimes closer to animation, in that each character’s voice might be unique. But when Mom or Grandpa reads a bedtime story, they don’t necessarily do character voices, and (as with adult audiobooks) character voices aren’t always used for voice over narration. Jessica has voiced books as the narrator but yet she has also been a character in the children’s story, as in the time she voiced the ugly duckling in The Ugly Duckling story.
Infomercials
Whether on TV, on the Web, or a store display, who hasn’t encountered this special long-form pitch?
Trade Show Exhibits
This includes anything from a video that runs in a loop at a trade-show booth, to recorded narration that might be paired (for example) with live demonstrators.
YouTube Videos
This actually includes everything from animated entertainment and sales pitches, to subjects such as how to choose a guitar. It’s such a huge field that there are bound to be VO jobs in it that can only be described as “narration,” and new ideas are constantly emerging. Jessica is all over YouTube with her voice.
Audiobooks
Although a very specialized form of Narration and thus its own genre, many books are, of course, “narrated,” so we ought to include it here. Jessica has voiced several audiobooks, many are fun new books recently released. Some of her audiobooks are for the Learning Ally to assist kids with reading disabilities.
Others include Announcements • Public Service Announcements • Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) • Biography • Character Acting • Corporate & Industrial • Exercise • Government • Inspiration & Relaxation • Internet & Website Video • Kids • Medical & Pharmaceutical • Political Motivational Media • Tours
Teen Girl Narrator
Narration makes up a large portion of many working voice actors’ careers. Jessica has been voicing narrations since her very first booking in voice over. There are many ways to tell a story and narration is a huge one! Sometimes Jessica’s voice is the only voice in the story, leading the listeners through excitement, suspense, fear, excitement and much more. For other narrations, Jessica’s voice as the narrator is to keep the story together. Like the narrator in Winnie the Pooh, Jessica comes in to smoothly change the scenes, days, events, and even the weather.
Jessica’s Versatile Voice
Jessica has had the privilege of providing narration for the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, an autism awareness short film, a spooky Hallow’s Eve animation, a tutorial video on how to use Funky Klav music editor, her personal favorite, a Habitat for Humanity nonprofit campaign that helps place families into good homes, and several other projects. She has a bright youthful voice that fits well into upbeat, energetic, and conversational reads, but can also take on a more warm and serious persona when the script calls for such. Jessica’s range allows her to work on a multitude of different projects and connect with their unique audiences.
Professional Narration from Authentic Female Teenager
Jessica has worked with a catalogue of coaches that have trained her in the art of tone and pacing in her reads, but also in analysis of breaking down scripts and preparing them for performance. She starts with what the intentions of the content are, whether it be educational or for entertainment purposes. She then decides upon the proper tone and pacing, whether it be an uplifting piece, a neutral tone, something meant to pull at your heartstrings, or something highly formal. Jessica knows the purpose of her voice is to engage her audience and draw them in to the content, and works to ensure that her voice complements the script and the visuals. She works quickly from a quality recording space, and can turn around projects in a timely manner to help meet deadlines.
