Jessica’s very first job in voice over was a commercial for Habitat for Humanity and since her first booking she has continued to voice a large variety of commercial projects. Jessica has trained in commercial voice over ever since she first started in voice over. Well trained voice over artists learn the way to speak the commercials, where to emphasize certain phrases, where to speed up, where to slow down.
Jessica has booked the narrations for commercials, tag lines for commercials and then small parts here and there that create the full broadcast commercial. Jessica offers a variety of voices, sounds and personalities to match the needs of the producers and directors of the production. Jessica encourages live direction during sessions so the client knows they are getting the sound they need.
Many of the commercials Jessica has voiced are looking for either a child or teen sound. Jessica has the talent to portray voices of various ages from infants to young adult. This was noticeable right away when Jessica first started voice over. She has the ability to provide specific age appropriate voices for her commercial roles. The youngest voice Jessica has provided for commercial work was a 3 year old voice to play a young child who was speaking with her mom in a commercial. Jessica has recorded various roles of individual characters, narrator and even inanimate objects for her commercial bookings. Jessica enjoys providing different voices for different projects. Occasionally producers will present the description of what they need for a commercial and Jessica will work on the possible voice, provide a few options and present them to the end client. Jessica has quite a vivid imagination and can easily come up with options for the least suspecting character or object to suddenly have a voice.
Jessica has always been fascinated by commercials, even at a young age. She was always so excited to see a medical commercial with a huge butterfly. She would insist on being called to the television when her favorite commercials aired. Jessica has a knack for mocking and doing impressions of broadcast commercials to turn them into something new and different. To this day she feels one mattress commercial should be advertised as a fun narration and not such a serious subject. After all, if your bed has moving parts it should be fun to promote.
Given the sheer range of applications for commercial voice overs, it is an absolute necessity for voice over artists to possess great versatility. Jessica may be asked to perform humorous sketches, speak about a horribly sad subject, or speak in a perky and happy tone. All of these jobs must be undertaken in both a professional and creative manner which Jessica can conquer.
The demographics of your audience will affect how you categorize ‘the ideal commercial voice over artist.’ The sound you select may also vary greatly depending on the industry and the type of commercial being recorded. Many clients choose Jessica’s voice based on the commercial’s specific offering – and who it appeals to.
With Jessica’s first commercial voice over project, it was a perfect match for her. Jessica was and still is a proponent that every individual is entitled to the same benefits in life that she has. A roof over their head, a bedroom for her toys, a bed, and a space to dream. Little things like having a kitchen, a car, a bus to ride to school in should be normal. So Jessica poured her heart and soul into this audition because she felt the impact. Not every child has a home. Once Jessica’s audition was sent in she was contacted a few days later to record the project. The video is still out today and Jessica’s point was well made narrating this commercial video.
Jessica has recorded a few commercial demos for voice over. Jessica’s latest demo is called a 6 second demo
A 6 second demo has a variety of commercial recordings each 6 seconds long. This was a great way to showcase the various voices Jessica can provide. Jessica typically books commercials for an age range of 7 – 15 years old. Jessica has also recorded projects where she has voiced multiple characters. These types of projects are on the internet, for retail stores and a variety of other situations.
